January 2026 - PresentBarry and his family moved to DuBois in 1987. Barry became the Athletic Director of the DuBois Area School District and his wife continued her nursing career as an Emergency Room Nurse. Barry spent 38 years in public education, with a B.S. Degree from the former Clarion University and a Master's Degree in Education from Penn State University.
Barry is the project director for the SAL Memorial Project in City Park honoring our Veterans and Veterans' families and friends.
Upon retiring from the education field, Barry successfully became a Sandy Township Supervisor and a Joint Board member for the Consolidation of the City of DuBois and Sandy Township. He recently retired from officiating sports after 54 years.
During the election process, Barry was elected to the New City Council and was elected by the Council to the position of first Mayor for the New City of DuBois.
Barry and his wife live in Treasure Lake where they raised their two sons and their daughter. The Abbotts are grandparents of seven grandchildren. Barry recently became an ordained minister for the purpose of marrying one of his oldest granddaughters.
Barry enjoys spending time with his family, working in his garden, cutting firewood, and getting out in the public with his wife.
