The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects Law Enforcement’s commitment to Americans’ safety and
health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse, accidental exposure and even environmental pollution.
The DuBois City Police Department has participated in the DEA Drug Take Back Program since 2014. Since then, with great help and participation from our community, we have been able to properly dispose of over one ton of Unwanted pharmaceuticals. In doing so, we have prevented abuse, accidental ingestion and helped keep the environment cleaner.
The collected pharmaceuticals are collected by the PA National Guard and disposed of by incineration as part of the Pennsylvania Counterdrug Joint Task Force.
The public may place unwanted and unused prescription medication in the collection box located inside the lobby of the police station at 16 W Scribner Ave. The lobby door is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday or is otherwise accessible by contacting Clearfield County Control via the courtesy phone located outside the station.
K9 Ace is a male Belgian Malinois imported from the Czech Republic to Olean, NY, where he underwent extensive training in becoming a dual-purpose patrol certified police K9. In 2020, Ace completed all of his certifications along with the handler to become certified through the American Working Dog Association in the following disciplines: Narcotics detection, apprehension, tracking, article search, and handler protection.
To keep the certifications active, Ace and his handler are required to complete a mandatory 16 hours of continued training per month, however, many more hours than this are spent towards keeping him qualified. They are also required to complete a battery of tests annually to show they have continued a level of proficiency as required by Pennsylvania law.
Since 2020, Ace has continued to serve the citizens of the DuBois area, which is his primary location, as well as surrounding counties or wherever he is called. Some of the common deployments are narcotics detection of a vehicle or structure(s); locating the missing person(s), runaways, and fleeing subjects; article searches to locate and preserve items of evidentiary value; the apprehension of a violent person(s) that pose a risk to society. Ace also participates in searching schools for contraband as well as jails.

The DuBois City Critical Incident Response Team or CIRT, was formed in 2023 to provide the DuBois City Police Department with an additional means of dealing with high-risk, special emergency, and/or other critical incidents or unusual situations, where specialized training in tactical communications, advanced tactics, and specialized equipment is required or needed.
CIRT provides a group of specially trained and equipped Officers, who can respond in a prepared and organized manner to requests for assistance by the DuBois City Police Department and/or if requested, an outside agency. Examples of incidents which may require CIRT activation are Barricade Situations, High-RIsk Apprehensions, High-Risk Warrant Service and any other Special Assignments in which the Chief of Police may assign.
The DuBois City CIRT is comprised of a CIRT Commander, Team Leaders, and Members ranging from tactical entry team operators to negotiations, specially trained in the use of less lethal systems and tactics. CIRT was developed out of a need to provide our community with a specially trained team of men and women where there is an enhanced risk of injury, for the service and protection of the citizens of our community, but also the lives of those suspects encountered during these operations.
The DuBois City Police Department Investigation Division is staffed by a full-time officer assigned as the Detective. The detective is responsible for investigating crimes that are not readily solved, require follow-up, and detailed or lengthy investigation. These crimes range from thefts, burglaries, crimes against children, assaults and homicides. The detective is responsible for investigating all Childline reports received by the DuBois City Police Department.
The detective works closely with the Office of the District Attorney, Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, the Child Advocacy Center of Clearfield County, Children and Youth Services and many other local, state and federal agencies. The detective is also an active member of the county Multidisciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT).
In addition to investigations, the detective has specialized training in cell phone forensics. The detective utilizes MSAB XRY and Data Pilot to retrieve data in a forensically sound way from mobile devices. This information is then used to further investigations by not only the DuBois City Police, but surrounding local departments, the State Police and the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General.
